EMDR Therapy in New York
I will help you to feel unstuck so that you can begin to feel hopeful and begin to take ownership of the life and move forward with your life.
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based treatment and is an alternative to a traditional talk therapy. It has often been effective for clients who have tried other forms of therapy and did not have a success.
Unlike regular talk therapy, you do not have to repeat details about disturbing issues to the therapist.
EMDR can facilitate in helping you to move forward.
You may read details of the EMDR research through EMDR International Association website.
Benefits of EMDR
EMDR is most commonly known for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The great new is that you do not have to have a PTSD diagnosis per se to benefit from the EMDR approach. Trauma can manifest in the form of irritability, difficulty with attention, poor sleep, nightmares, anxiety, hypervigilence, memory issues, and dissociation.
EMDR protocol is also used to navigate through a dilemma, death of a loved one or loss of a pet, betrayal from infidelity or affair, low self-esteem or confidence, and recovery from a painful break up or divorce.
How does EMDR session look like?
EMDR is conducted in multiple phases. It begins by identifying painful experiences, memories, and negative beliefs about yourself. You will learn anxiety management and relaxation skills for you to practice in between the sessions.
Next, through a process of desensitization via bilateral stimulation, the memories and beliefs are transformed so that they are no longer emotionally disturbing.
Intellectually, we often “know” what to do, but “feel” paralyzed & stuck. EMDR can facilitate in helping you to move forward. The last step helps individuals to form positive feelings about themselves and their experiences.
You have the total control. I will pace with you and you do not ever have to do anything that you do not want to at any given moment. Feeling safe and in control are my upmost priority for you.
